Sulphur (S) is vital for life.  It is one of the major essential nutrients required by plants in addition to nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). Agricultural crops require S in amounts similar to phosphorus to sustain growth, quality characteristics, and yield.

The Rising Demand of Sulphur Fertilizer in Agriculture Worldwide

 

Over 10 million tons of S are applied to soils worldwide through fertilizers.  This application is dramatically less than the current S fertilizer requirement based on crop demand, fertilizer efficiency and current inputs.  The current gap is estimated at 9.6 million nutrient tons annually.

 

With increased food production raising S requirements and assuming slower expansion rates for S application in accordance with recent history,

 

The requirement for S fertilizers is projected to grow to over 11.9 million tons.
